Jared Max, a 37-year-old sports radio reporter and current talk-show host on ESPN Radio New York, announced on the air Thursday morning that he is gay. The announcement comes on the heels of similar revelations from Phoenix Suns executive Rick Welts and former Villanova basketball player Will Sheridan.
Toward the end of his daily 5-6 a.m. show, Max acknowledged these two men, and then shared his own story.
“Are we ready to have our sports information delivered by someone who is gay?” He asked. “We’re going to find out. … I am gay. Yeah, Jared Max, the sports guy with one of the most familiar voices in New York sports, isn’t quite like the majority.
The New York Daily News reports that Max did not tell ESPN exactly what he would say, but network executives supported him through the process.
